It is a well-know fact that Cirrus revitalizes general aviation by designing and building affordable personal aircraft that are safer, more comfortable and easier to operate.

On 19 Jun 2010 (Saturday), WingsOverAsia members had a wonderful day out flying/driving into Ipoh, Malaysia to attend the Cirrus Aircraft Appreciation day, jointly organized by Integrated Training Services (IT&S) Sdn Bhd, Cirrus Aircrafts and WOA. We had a warm welcome upon arrival at Ipoh Airport’s ITS hangar by our hosts.

Cirrus Design Corporation was founded in 1984 with a dream to design and build affordable airplanes that deliver greater control, more comfort, and unprecedented levels of safety. Today, Cirrus is the world's leading innovator of single-engine, piston-powered aircraft. In fact, for the last five years their SR22 has been the world's best selling airplane in its class.

During the Cirrus Aircraft Appreciation event, Cirrus Aircrafts gave WOA members a special treat. Promising WOA an interactive and fun sharing session instead of a standard sales pitch, Mr Patrick Caroll, the regional Cirrus Aircraft director, delivered to his promises a well structured, entertaining and informative presentation on BRS systems with rarely seen publicly footages of BRS deployments and system tests.

With Cirrus’s in delivering their latest Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS™), videos were shown during the seminar, which illustrated that the parachute system is designed to protect occupants in the event of an emergency by lowering the aircraft to the ground after deployment.

In the event of an in-flight emergency, pulling the red CAPS™ handle on the ceiling inside the cockpit deploys a solid-fuel rocket out a hatch that covers the concealed compartment where the parachute is stored. Within seconds, the 55' diameter canopy will unfurl, controlling the aircraft rate of descent. The final landing is absorbed by the specialized landing gear, a roll cage and Cirrus Energy Absorbing Technology (CEAT™) seats.

Participants had a chance to view, touch and feel the aircrafts and many new to Cirrus were pleasantly surprised to discover that the Cirrus aircrafts actually have comfortable, luxurious and safe interior spaces. The cabin layout is actually designed to maximize space in a sanctuary of luxury and safety.

Needless to say, the powered by a single engine Cirrus aircrafts are also lighter, quieter and more efficient than many other personal aircrafts.

In Ipoh, every step is a joy. People in Ipoh are relaxed, peaceful and steady. Their daily lives are surrounded by nature and kampong feels. Birds singing, chickens shrill in the morning, peaceful streets etc are the common sights you will see.

The event also included a light lunch buffet spread for us, including deep fried pastries, burger with grilling hot roasted chicken toasted right in front of you, Malay kuays and other finger foods, bringing together the exceptional tastes of Ipoh.

The event was hailed a success. Participants brought home memories of a joyful experience for all involved and Integrated Aviation Academy even generously offered every one of us, excluding ladies, received an Integrated Aviation Academy tie each.

WOA team expresses our sincere thanks to Mr Patrick Caroll (Cirrus Aircrafts), Idi, Colonel Khairudin & Major Halim's team from IT&S, ESB & related companies for supporting this event and hosting our members. We look forward to returning the favor back to you in Ipoh someday soon.
